| Bulletin: | Ah... my first abuse of the bulletins function... If you want to participate in FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, but can't afford to publish a stand alone book, I am offering a cheap way to get some presence on FCBD. I am putting out a FREE COMIC BOOK DAY Edition of WAHOO MORRIS this year and have up to 6 extra pages at the back which I am offering up for advertising purposes. I'm selling half pages for $50 and full pages for $100. An enterprising person could buy all six pages at a discount and run a short story plus an add for extra bang for their buck. The FCBD edition of WAHOO MORRIS will be a reprint of WAHOO MORRIS #1, which is also the first chapter of WAHOO MORRIS Book 1. I'm doing this to promote WAHOO MORRIS Book 1 which is available now, and to promote WAHOO MORRIS Book 2 which will be out in the summer shortly after FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. My research shows that SILVER level indie comics get ordered in the range of 12000-15000 copies. SILVER Level books last year were priced between 19 cents and 59 cents (the price retailers pay to buy the books), with the majority being around 39 cents. I have priced the WAHOO MORRIS edition at 20 cents to retailers, which if publishers price the same as last year, will make my book only 1 cent more expensive than the DC and Marvel Silver level offerings of last year and a lot cheaper than the average - so, I 'should' be ordered in the higher bracket of 15000 copies. I say 'should' as there is no way to guarantee orders. But $100 for a full page ad in a comic with 12-15K circulation is pretty cheap, I think. If it isn't, I'm negotiable. Just so you know, I'm not doing this to make a profit. I'm essentially purchasing advertising for my product, and depending on orders, my loss is going to be somewhere between $2000 to $1000. My budget is limited this year and I have to send a trade paperback to the printer a few weeks later, so I'm just trying to minimize the financial bleed by trying to raise a few hundred bucks. I'm not going to be snobby about who gets to advertise (I'll accept Superhero books) but obviously ads for comics and books of the character driven variety will be more effective (and get more bang for your buck) in WAHOO MORRIS. And ads for on-line stores or businesses advertising direct sales to consumers (i.e. taking business from brick and mortar stores) probably aren't a good idea as this is an advertising opportunity partially paid for by comic book store retailers.
