RE: Just a thought...

I moaned and groaned that companies, like Tokyopop, should have gone that route with their OEL books. An American Shonen Jump style book. It's a good way to keep a series fresh in the readers mind. TP just doesnt seem to have a handle on the concept of the montlies and manga compilations. But they'd probably try and make the phonebook versions just as expensive as the tiny GN thus ruining the mechanics of it all.

If you look at the mothlies like TV shows, and the compiled versions of the shows on dvd like the compilation mangas its a formula that can't fail. Cheap entertainment, the phone books, will keep them coming back and thus building a strong and dedicted fan base who won't go broke. Then the compilations will be like making extra money on top of that for work that aready finished.

It's an idea I'm baffeld Marvel and DC haven't caught on to this concept. I mean, just how many singe monthly titles do I see at my local Barnes and Noble magazine rack? Three? Six? It's because they are competing for shelf space across wise insted of thinking going deep. You can probaly fit more Marvel titles in a phone book size publiction. And you're forcing, for example, a Spidey fan to take home other titles he may also begin to enjoy reading, thus more sale in the GN department down the line. If a Spidey fan buys one Spider-man monthly comic book, he only walks away from the store with one Spider-man book and for only 3 bucks for a 24 page book it feels like a rip-off.

Sorry to go on and on, but this has been a topic I've been just boggled, over the last ten years, as to why the major American publishers has yet to understand the potential of this business tactic. It's so simple, but the American comic industry is so dead set in their old ways that they just can't say to themselves that this just doesn't work anymore and how can we fix it.

Well if you feel so strongly about this then Studio Capsule should publish. With your name and an original idea like that I'm sure you could get it into the Diamond catalog and that's all you need. Of course I've been thinking the same thing.... so I would be glad to be heavily involved in the project.

Hi there,
Just scan the image at 300dpi and then reduce it to 72 dpi at (but remember to reduce for viewing on web). That should keep the integrity of art.
